Abstract

The Pal landslide (Municipality of Sonico, Brescia) is an important phenomenon of instability well known for more than 25 years. The movement affects a large sector of the mountain slope (280,000 sq m), with surface displacements of about 3-6 meters in less than two years. ARPA Lombardia, during the summer 2012, has installed a monitoring system and a monitoring network for hazard alert management. The paper describes the choices and the phases carried out to design and implement the monitoring system. In particular the paper illustrates the reasons that led to the choice of a wireless communication system and to back up the transmission using a satellite technology.
